Dear Parents and Carers,

The last week has been dominated by the end of primary year 6 SAT tests and I would like to congratulate all our year 6 pupils for their determination to do their best.  Mr Moir helped support our SATs on Thursday and was particularly impressed with how well the children knuckled down!

Over the past few weeks we have been delighted to welcome a number of new families to our school.  I have been very pleased by how well the children have settled in, how they have been supported by their buddies and peers in school and how enthusiastic they are to be part of our Bampton family!

On Thursday, I attended a PTFA meeting and lots of plans were made for organising social and fundraising events this term.  On the Friday 14th of June, there is a Quiz and Curry night in the Riverside Hall and on Saturday 6th July from 2-4pm we will hold our Summer Fete on our playing field.  We are hoping that having it at this time will encourage lots of members of our community to join us. The year 6 children are planning their own stalls and among other things, there will be a bouncy castle,  a Pimms tent and a BBQ! We will need lots of Parent Power in the morning to help set up the stalls and the gazebos please!

The PTFA do a tremendous job in raising funds for our children and we are extremely grateful for the money they have put towards the cost of transport for our trips this year, ensuring that these are more affordable.  As always, they would appreciate more parent/carer members so if you are able to give a bit of your time to support them please contact bamptonptfa@gmail.com

Next week there is a Non Pupil Day on Friday 24th May.

All staff have been so impressed with children’s enthusiasm and determination to improve their times tables knowledge. If your child’s name is mentioned in the newsletter, then there is a 3 house point reward! Your child has a Times Table Rockstar login, which can be used at home too.

Good luck everyone!

Fieldmice and Hedgehog Class:

Hedgehogs enjoyed a lovely day out at Dunster Castle last week.  We learned lots about the history of the building and identified features of castles, as well as finding out about Motte and Bailey features which we could relate to Bampton. Fieldmice and Hedgehogs have been planting seeds, including cress and sunflowers, as well as looking after our strawberries and tomatoes.  We can’t wait to try them when they are ready!

Squirrel Class:

really enjoyed their trip to Dunster Castle with Hedgehog class. We showed lots of curiosity and courtesy as we made our way around the grounds, following the outdoor trail and inside exploring the Castle. We were really lucky with the weather and thank you again to all the adults who supported us on the trip. Squirrels have shown excellent resilience this week as we have spent a lot of the week in Hedgehog class due to SATS taking place in various rooms across the school. It has been a fantastic opportunity for us to get to know our new friends by working together on different challenges such as lego, board games and phonics activities.

Fox Class:

During the last two weeks, Fox class have been on a Science residential to Hooke Court, Dorset. The class built rockets and launched them with gunpowder! They built boats, raced them and went on a night walk looking at different living things and habitats. We also saw piglets and lambs. The class were an absolute pleasure to take away and made the most of every minute! I would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Newman, who came away with us. When we returned to school, 17 children went on a cricket skills tournament at THS. Bowling, catching and batting skills are developing well. I have also been very impressed with our new starters in Fox class. It has been lovely to see how welcomed they have been and how much effort they have made to get to know the class. They have all shown great characteristics of friendliness and bravery.

Stag Class:

I am so proud of all members of Stag Class this week.  Year 6 have shown extraordinary resilience throughout SATs week and special commendation should go to Harry and Olivia for doing all their maths tests in one day! Yr 5 have enjoyed showing off their enthusiasm for learning with Mrs Taylor while their classmates sat their tests.

Hedgehog

Charlie in Hedgehog Class

For showing the character virtues of resilience and courtesy in his learning. Charlie has been very brave in the pool, pushing himself out of his comfort zone. Charlie has also been noticed by Mrs. Standford in his phonics group.

Well done Charlie!

Aaron in Hedgehog Class

For showing the character virtues of resilience and courtesy in his learning. Aaron has recently joined Hedgehog class and has fitted in seamlessly.  Socially, Aaron has made lots of new friends, and academically, Aaron has shown that he is very astute with his reading and maths.  Well done Aaron!

Squirrels

Verity in Squirrel Class

For demonstrating the virtue of determination. Wow—Verity you really are an inspiration. You have returned to school with such joy and determination. You got 10 out of 10 in your Tough Ten on the first day back and not only that, have adapted to walking with crutches. Yesterday all the adults were super impressed with how you embraced the trip to Dunster Castle, using both a wheelchair and crutches! You are a super star.

Paige in Squirrel Class

For demonstrating the character virtues of friendliness and motivation. From the moment you joined Squirrel class you have truly seized every opportunity and have impressed everyone with your desire to learn and your positivity. We are really proud of how you have managed the change into a new school and can see you have a bright future ahead of you at Bampton. Very well done.

Foxes

All of Fox Class

All of Fox class have shown the character virtues of curiosity and courage. At Hooke Court, they showed great courage staying away from home and trying new activities. Curiosity was shown through asking excellent questions and problem solving when building rockets, boats and learning about living things and their habitats. Thank you for being such a pleasure to take away

Ella In Fox Class

For showing the character virtues of curiosity and caring. Ella is very caring and thoughtful. She will look out for others and say if someone is upset or needs support. This also is shown when Phoebe (therapy dog) is in. Ella asks great questions and keeps asking until she fully understands. Her presentation is going from strength to strength and her effort is admirable.

Stags

Olivia in Stag Class

For stepping in at the last moment to take part in the Exmoor Challenge, saving the day for Team 3.  Olivia only had to make it to the first checkpoint but ended up getting all the way to checkpoint 5 even though she had only done half of the practice walks.

Whole of Year 6

Well done to all of the Yr 6 cohort for their determination and resilience through an extraordinary week packed with tests.  I am so proud of all of you for trying your hardest!   You deserve to do very well.

Well done Everybody

The PTFA is made up of parents, carers, teachers, and friends of Bampton School with a shared interest in raising funds for equipment, resources, and activities to enhance the children’s learning experience.

We meet monthly to discuss how we as a school community can develop and improve school facilities and students’ opportunities, through planning fundraising events such as Bingo events, the Christmas Community Evening, Easter Extravaganza etc.

We welcome new and old members and are hoping for more support in the coming months.

If you can help in any way, or would like more information on the work we do then please contact bamptonptfa@gmail.com or look out for meeting dates on the school website, posters around the school or for notes in your child’s book bag.
